Staff Comment - We have automatic light extinguishing by use of a special room key. Employees are all encouraged to turn off lights, computers, and monitors when not in use. Besides, we switched to compact fluorescent light bulbs in guestrooms, lobbies, and hallways. These bulbs last 10 times as long as incandescent bulbs and use 75 percent less energy. We use sensors and timers for areas that are infrequently used. We use natural light whenever possible in all of our guest rooms, meetings rooms, hallways and restaurant.

Our housekeeping personnel has been trained to turn of unneeded lights and appliances We re-use recycled paper for all our in-house printing We provide a re-use program to reduce our laundry and detergent needs with our guests. Indeed, the manager provides environmental awareness and training as part of the induction programme each year Building management systems are in place to control temperatures throughout the building

Staff Comment - In 2007, Nimotel switched to all-natural cleaning products and has always had a sheet and towel re-use program in place. Indeed, housekeepers use nontoxic or least toxic cleaners, sanitizers, paints, pesticides. Waste water from the Hotel feeds the vegetable, herb, and flower gardens We now use a three day reuse program with our guests. We reuse old sheets and towels internally for rags and sew the sheets into storage bags, etc

We use low-flow shower heads and faucets throughout our structure (5 liters per minute). We also actively encourage guests to be conscious of their water use. The manager created an incentive program to encourage his staff to participate in and improve upon environmentally-friendly practices.

Staff Comment - We use a dispenser system that assisted us in removing 128,000 small bottles of shampoo and soap out of the landfill each year We reuse hotel paper pads whenever possible. We set out pitchers of water rather than bottles of water during meetings. We select and purchase as many products as possible that use minimum packaging.

Every guest room provides recycler baskets for newspaper, white paper, glass, aluminium, cardboard, and plastic. Customers use refillable soap and shampoo dispensers. We actively encourage all of our guests to participate in our recycling program. Placards are used in the room to inform our guests about our “green” efforts, such as re-using towels on guest request. We give old furnitures and appliances to charities.

Staff Comment - Nimotel regularly makes donations to organizations such as Croix Rouge. We ask our vendors to ensure they are also following eco-friendly programs and systems to ensure that we are not negatively impacting the environment with our purchases. All cleaning products are eco-friendly. We upgraded to compact fluorescent light bulbs guest rooms and hallways. Our kitchen has a new energy efficient dishwasher.

Employees are offered secured bike storage and change rooms for alternative forms of transportation. We have elaborated and implemented a comprehensive eco-policy that affects all aspects of the management of our hotel. We also actively invite guests to participate in our effort. We systematically incorporate new environmentally friendly appliances in our structure.

Staff Comment - We know the area very well and spend time with our guests explaining activities and visits. We also promote the area via our website (“Notre région” section). We hire locally and work actively to support the local economy by sourcing as many of our food products as possible from local farmers and companies, to ensure we are not burning carbons to provide the food for our guests. Some students work seasonally in the summer. We actively encourage all guests to visit our suppliers and buy the products they taste in our meals. Our Chefs focus on the use of local, organic and seasonal ingredients.
