This is a perfect place for relaxing weekend getaways from the children, memorable wedding anniversaries and birthdays or unique honeymoons. Settle into one of the two cozy rooms with knotty white pine walls, queen size beds, private baths, and private entrances opening onto quiet patios.

Or choose one of the two unique yurts where canopied queen size beds and simulated wood stoves offer a romantic ambiance. Whether sipping a glass of wine on the secluded deck outside the door or snuggling into the flannel sheets in the winter, you're bound to have a stay to remember.

Located just five and a half miles north of the historic square, Cedar House is convenient to all the mountain attractions. The Appalachian Trail and other hiking areas are just minutes away. Amicalola Falls, DeSoto Falls and several other falls are nearby and offer scenic waterfalls and great hiking opportunities. Alpine Helen, the historic Sautee Nacoochi Valley, and Unicoi State Park are just over a half hour drive to the east. Enjoy horseback riding or go kayaking, canoeing, or tubing down the Etowah or Chestatee Rivers. Cool off with a swim in Dicks Creek. Mountain bike on rugged trails or road bike on the same mountainous route used by professional racers.

Staff Comment - Replaced all lights with CFL's and leds. Also use energy star rated appliances. Heating is energy efficient zoned heating in guest rooms/yurts. Inn is also passive solar design so requires little supplement heat. Also use airtight wood stove and burn downed trees and scraps for pallet factory. Hot water heaters are propane and insulated to retain heat. Low flow shower heads and sink aerators minimize hot water usage. Additional insulation has been added. Deciduous trees have been added to reduce cooling needs. Turn off light stickers on all light switches for guests/staff. Ceiling fans in all areas to reduce heating and cooling needs. Windows that open and screen dooors to bring in fresh air. Attic fan to remove hot air. Guests have information in the rooms to educate on saving electricity and impact on global warming. Use ecosmart washer with low energy usage and high speed spin. Hang out guest linens on clotheslines.

Staff Comment - Do not have greywater recycling since it is illegal in Georgia. Staff do collect rain water and have small recepticles to catch sink water going down the drain while waiting for hot water to arrive. use low flow shoer heads and sink aerators everywhere. No bath tubs or jacuzzi tubs on property. Use composting toilets in yurts that require no water. use low flow toilets everywhere else. Do not wash towels and bed linens until check out. Use native plantings and have created a freedom lawn that requires no water. No hard surface pavement/sidewalks so water can easily percolate and recharge wells/streams. Have conserve water stickers in guest areas and other information on how guests can conserve.

Staff Comment - Do not use disposable plates, glasses or flatware. Purchase items in recycled items only. For example 1 and 2 plastics and paper, no styrofoam. Recycle plastics as noted as well as metal/aluminum cans and glass. Compost cooked food leftovers in Green Cone and other items in drum composter. Recycle bins in all guest accommodations. Guest information in all rooms about recycling. Donate used items to local thift store that we no longer use (sheets, blankets, bedspreads, etc). Do not print brochues any more to save trees. Use recycled paper when applicable.

Staff Comment - Donate free nights of lodging to local eco friendly charities. Donate linens as noted above.Educate guests through in room literature, eco friendly magazines and discussions during breakfast and evening visits. Website has a protecting the Earth page that talks about some of the things we do.

Staff Comment - Encourage guests to visit local businesses for entertainment, dining, etc. Also encourage guests to visit local CSA farm and strawberry farm. Guests visit the many wineries and enjoy the National Forests areas and waterfalls.
