The lodge has a serious approach to energy management and we expect to make further developments in this field.

Only biodegradable products are used for cleaning. The lodge promotes re-use of towels. The gardens were made with
native plants in order to avoid interference on the ecosystem.
There are biological waste water treatments for both black and grey-water disposal,
made with techniques from specialised personnel.
Disposal Rating: ★★★★★ (5)
Staff Comment - The lodge has a serious approach to both organic and non-organic disposal.
All non-organic material is separated and recycled through an efficient process that is shared
among all the staff. Organic disposal is used for composting.
Eco-Active Rating: ★★★★★ (5)
Staff Comment - The lodge has a strong approach to environmental education issues. For tourists, we have low impact
activities: limit of up to 8 people per trail, no disturbance to the wildlife, trail management usage, preference
to use canoes instead of motor boats, and strong sense environmental awareness shared among local staff and guides.
For the local community, the lodge supports the Cristalino Ecological Foundation, a non-profit organisation that is
currently working with educational and conservation issues in the region.
One of these projects is the School of the Amazon, which promotes environmental education
workshops for the local children. This project received the Whitley Fund for Nature from the Whitley Awards in 2007
Protection Rating: ★★★★★ (5)
Staff Comment - The lodge preserves a Private Rainforest Reserve with over 17,300 acres
(an area 20% larger than Manhattan Island). The region has a strategic position for conservation, because it is
located close to threatened forests, and is recognised as on of the most important areas in the Amazon in terms
of biodiversity. The exceptional amount of species, even for the Amazonian standards, makes this one of the
richiest places for observing birds, mammals, orchids and butterflies in a Primary Rainforest region.
All guides have a very strong knowledge about conservation issues. The lodge has organic gardens for vegetal production.
In 2008 the lodge was selected a winner of the World Savers Award from Codé Nast Traveler, one of the most
important sustainable awards for the travel industry.
