Fattoria Barbialla Nuova
Fattoria Barbialla Nuova is a 500-hectare organic farm specialising in white Chianina cattle, fragrant olive oil and white truffles. They have worked hard
to provide somewhere stylish, beautiful and bio-sensitive to stay on this glorious nature reserve and operational farm. The farm is managed organically
with a herd of 60 Chianina cows, bred in the area since the Etruscans.
There are three farmhouses here, all with sweeping views. 'Le Trosce' is a self-contained home all on one floor but with several levels. 'Doderi' is
divided into three apartments, simple and minimalist, with furniture chosen for stylishness and originality. The apartments in 'Brentina', deeper in
the woods, are quite rustic with whitewashed walls and spacious rooms.
Outside the houses are pergolas, patios and pools, chic with deckchairs, surrounded by olive groves and fruit trees. Each apartment has books and CD
players so that the outside world need not interrupt your idyll. Extensive walking trails criss-cross the property and encourage you to explore the
beautiful and unique property.
Every season brings its treasures to bear at Barbialla Nuova; the Autumn is the time to go for truffle-hunting or to taste the treasures of the harvest.
The soft Spring sunshine highlights the unfurling blossom and is the ideal time to visit Barbialla, awakening from its Winter slumber. The Summer heat
invites you to enjoy the cool water of the pools and bathe in the Tuscan sunshine.

Staff Comment - The houses have been renovated with an environmental sensitivity including automatic and energy efficient lights and extra insulation. The majority of our apartments are heated using a state-of-the-art wood-fired boiler. On arrival, guests are asked to consider their energy usage. We have a commitment to introducing solar panels for water heating to accompany the wood-fired boiler in the summer months. The wood-fired heaters burn timber harvested sustainably from the property.

Staff Comment - The water usage is kept to a minimum by the use of low-flow shower heads in all the bathrooms. The water is from our wells and lakes and guests are asked to use the water wisely. Our cleaning products are primarily biodegradable and environmentally sensitive. Bedding and towels are used in the same manner as at home and are commercially cleaned when guests leave. Our organic garden is irrigated with soaker pipes to minimise evaporation and the landscaped gardens have hardy plants which do not require watering in the hotter months.

Staff Comment - All the apartments are provided with separate bins to encourage the separation of rubbish so it can be recycled. Our organic matter and those of the guests are either fed to our pigs or composted for use in the organic vegetable gardens. The use of disposable products is only where necessary and biodegradable, recyclable or recycled products are chosen.

Staff Comment - Our farm is certified organic and we stock mostly organic products in our shop. We advertise our organic status and environmental credentials so that we can encourage our guests to consider the environmental impacts of their lifestyle and also to encourage guests that value the environment to come and stay with us. Our farm is criss-crossed by walking trails that we have developed for our guests and each apartment has books and games provided, but no televisions or air-conditioning. We are a member of WWOOF Italia and have many volunteers stay with us to learn about organic farming methods and to help us on the farm. The apartments are furnished with antique, rustic furniture and recycled building materials.

Staff Comment - We support our local businesses by buying from them and also showcasing their products and services to our guests. We have our own organic shop on-farm which stocks locally made, organic products and we strongly encourage guests to purchase here. Our information booklet for guests provides information on the local attractions and how to reach more distant tourist destinations by train. We provide apartments on farm for some of our staff and others live in the local villages
