Finca del Buen Consejo

Finca del Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo is a completely sustainable organic farm with botanical gardens. They are located only two hours from the Capital of Ecuador, Quito at an elevation of 1,200 meters above sea level. The subtropical climate offers great natural vegetation as well as exotic species of birds. The farm has three newly built cabins made of local wood and bamboo. Each has its own private bath. They also offer activities in many of the local beautifull sites such as waterfall visits, mountain climbing, fly fishing, and pre Inca civilization ruins. All food consumed on the farm is grown by them with the exception of rice. They have free range chickens, turkeys, and pond raised tilapia fish.

Overall Rating: ★★★ (3)

Energy Rating: ★ (1)
Staff Comment - We are currently in the process of installing hydro power from our on site waterfall. We also use solar power for hot water but also a gas tank system for backup. We also use solar lamps for our outer walkways. Nonetheless, our finca does not use much electric usage.

Water Rating: ★★★ (3)
Staff Comment - We have our own natural water wells which feed our Hosteleria for washing. It also feeds our drinking water but also have an natural water filter system. We do not use dangerous cleaning products.

Disposal Rating: ★★★ (3)
Staff Comment - We have an onsite composting areas for organic waste. We also use recycling and have very little waste for disposal.

Eco-Active Rating: ★★★ (3)
Staff Comment - We only operate one electrical appliance….a refrigerator. Our stoves are fire or coal burning. We do not have a system in place for “eco” but rather rely on the way of life from the indigenous people of Ecuador that have lived without the modern world.

Protection Rating: ★★★ (3)
Staff Comment - We produce organically all the food consumption on our farm. We are a subtropical climate which facilitates most important food groups. We also raise Tilapia fish in our fish ponds. The only stable products we purchase off site are brown rice, our granola, and salt.
