Staff Comment - The Hotel Carlton has been awarded the Energy Star Award with 100 rating from the EPA. In 2008 the hotel installed solar panels and has a monitor in the lobby displaying the carbon usage that has been avoided. In the same area you will find information regarding energy reduction and why it is important. The hotel has a policy of turning of lights in unused guest rooms, offices, and our meeting space. Our staff goes through periodic training regarding energy usage. The hotel has purchased energy star washer and dryer, televisions, and dish washer. The hotel has an environmental policy statement that includes energy reduction.

Staff Comment - The Hotel Carlton has installed low flow toilets, low flow shower heads, and aerated faucets. The hotel has also purchased for housekeeping and the kitchen water and energy efficient dish washers. Our housekeeping department uses organic products (Vaska) made of essential oils. The hotel has a reuse program for its sheets and towels. Our housekeeping staff is committed to honouring our guests requests. The hotel has two planter boxes in the front of the hotel with native plants; that require minimal water. As part of our maintenance commitment to the USGBC (the hotel has received LEED Gold EB O&M certification – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Existing Building, Operations & Maintenance), the hotel staff is committed to reporting every leak, to our maintenance department so that it can be repaired. The hotel offers water filter machines to its guests with a glass pitcher in every room. The hope is that they feel their own bottles or use the pitcher for water and do no go out a buy bottled water. Near our water filter machine on the first floor you will find information regarding water reduction.

Staff Comment - The Hotel Carlton staff goes through periodic training for environment practices, such as composting/recycling/reuse, reducing water and energy usage, green meetings, and what it me to be sustainable. The hotel has shower dispensers with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash to avoid using small plastic bottles. The hotel uses dishware, rather than paper plates or plastic. The hotel has an environmental policy statement that includes reduction of waste and use of biodegradable products. You will find recycle bins in every guest room, meeting space, lobby, office, and back of the house. Also, near our water filter machine on the first floor you will find information regarding water reduction.

Staff Comment - The Hotel Carlton staff goes through periodic training for environment practices. The hotel donates its used sheets and towels to local charitable organizations. The hotel also has a partnership with the Raphael House (our next door neighbours) where our guests can easily donate a dollar a day. Our environmental awards are shown prominently in our lobby where I guests can see what the hotels has and is doing to be responsible. As stated earlier, the hotel has posted information on energy and water reduction. The following our awards and certifications:

Staff Comment - The Hotel Carlton partners with the Raphael House (RaphaelHouse.org), a shelter for at risk families. The hotel offers the opportunity for its guest to donate to the organization. Many gladly do and appreciate being able to support the community. The hotel also a philanthropy program. Our goal is to support non-profits by giving gift certificates to be auctioned off at fundraisers. Not only is our staff knowledgeable regarding the different tourist sites in San Francisco, they are very familiar with the small business in our area. There is many international restaurants in the area that our fabulous and not pricy. They consistently recommend these restaurant and we consistently receive thanks for the suggestion. As part of being part of a California company, the hotel makes every effort to purchase within California. Our guests can also enjoy breakfast and dinner in our Zagat rated restaurant, Saha (www.sahasf.com
), offering sustainable menus, with great vegan and vegetarian options.
