Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica
Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica is a gracious rainforest lodge, adjacent to the lush Tambopata National Reserve. Remote
and pristine, yet easily accessible, this region is only a 35-minute flight from Cusco. Here, in the area known as
the Biodiversity Capital of Peru, awaits the opportunity for discovering an incredible variety of species — bird,
mammal, reptile, insect and tree.
A welcoming haven situated at the heart of a 7,500 -hectare private ecological reserve, Inkaterra Reserva
Amazonica offers a range of land and river excursions that introduce guests to the magic of the rainforest.
This simple yet gracious, limited-electricity lodge has been an ecotourism pioneer for more than 30 years,
promoting innovative sustainable use of the Southern Peruvian Rainforest, and supporting important scientific
investigations since opening in 1975.
OVERVIEW
An award-winning eco-lodge, Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica beckons from the steep banks of Peru’s meandering Madre de
Dios River. Thirty-five solidly constructed thatched-roof cabanas, built on raised platforms in the indigenous
style, surround an architecturally stunning main building and dining room, built of native materials that blend
almost seamlessly into the jungle. Luxurious furnishings and delectable food offer a congenial complement to the
simplicity of lantern-light and the rich sounds of the jungle.
Tree-trunk boardwalks wind through the property, designed in the fashion of a native Ese’ Eja village overlooking
the Madre de Dios, connecting cabañas with a pavilion that houses the dining room, as well as the bar and main lounge,
plus balconies for bird watching and stargazing.

Overall Rating: ★★★ (3)
Energy Rating: ★★ (2)
Staff Comment - The energy of the lodge is provided by a power generator (gas) that only works during some hours of the day. This year we started an eco efficiency program in the lodge.
Water Rating: ★★★ (3)
Staff Comment - The quantity of water consumption is not a problem at the Amazonian rainforest.
A better distribution of water in rooms and kitchen will help treating less quantity of water in the entire hotel.
Disposal Rating: ★★★ (3)
Staff Comment - We do not use any plastic materials in our amenities, all products are naturally processed. Each guest has a canteen as a gift, so they can freely fill it with water from containers at the Restaurant and the Ecocenter. We use plastic bottled water at rooms for health issues.
Eco-Active Rating: ★★★★ (4)
Staff Comment - The NGO Inkaterra Asociación (ITA), manages research and conservation programs at a private reserve of 7,500 hectares adjacent to the lodge, and tons of carbon dioxide are stock in the forest trees. ITA also runs two scientific publications about reptiles and amphibians of the ‘Reserva Ecologica Inkaterra’ and also community development programs with some families that live near the lodge.
Our guests and staff can take part of our activities for the World Responsible Tourism day. In that day, the staff and some guests clean the riverbanks, plant native plant and trees, among other activities.
Protection Rating: ★★★★ (4)
Staff Comment - A 70% of all perishable supplies comes from local producers, our NGO Inkaterra Asociación manages training programs with the communities in agroforestry, bee farming, orchards and nurseries, and the menu of the restaurant offers Peruvian ingredients like native fruits.
