Staff Comment - Our retreat is located in a coastal rainforest district with on-site well. Human water use is minimized through education, and is 100%recycled on site through environmentally-conscious waste-water system, returned to the forest environment, biologically-safe. Vegetable, herb, flower, and fruit gardens are designed and maintained for the eco-system with little enhanced watering required. An in-line timed drip system is used during dry periods at 5am early morning hour to maximize water delivery and minimize evaporation. On-site composting system minimizes use of water as well as eco mulching.

Staff Comment - Our eco retreat has a fully-embraced minimum waste policy. First, we reduce any packaging by using reusable beverage and food containers, we reuse any and all non-compostable materials that make it into our system, we belong to a well-established community recycling program. All organic waste is composted on site and returned to the gardens, once composted. All paper junk mail is used to start biomass heating systems. All forest and garden waste is reused on site for fencing to art to compost. Human waste is via 100% onsite biological waste system with 100% water recovery to the eco-system.

Staff Comment - Our eco-philosophy is well-entrenched over decades. We reuse sheets, towels and robes from luxury hotels, outdoor towel racks and lines provide wind and solar drying, ongoing donations are made to eco-minded beneficiaries (the latest being Run for One Planet), education about appropriate human conduct in nature, use of 100% bio-firendly sopas, shampoos, conditioners and cleaning agents. All appliances Energy star rated and 100% focused on minimal water use, minimal energy use. OUr entire Raison d'etre is to be and to help others to be eco-conscious while they are in respite.

Staff Comment - Our entire Raison d'etre is to be and to help others to be eco-conscious while they are at the retreat. 90% of our consumables (including food, wine, beverages) are from wihtin 100 miles, and most from much closer. We support a local organic farmer who provides us with eggs, chicken, beef, and other seasonal items. Our onsite organic garden provides nutritious vegetables, fruits and herbs, and flowers. All hiking and cycling activities are done on well-maintained community trails with ongoing education for minimal impact ont the environment. We always "pack out" more than we take in!! Local contractors make up 100% of staffing needs, and we are committed members of the WWOOF (willing workers on organic farms) volunteer network.
