Pinehurst Inn merges the elements of the ideal lodging experience: serene location, activities for mind and body, and soothing amenities to rejuvenate. A heart- and soul-warming breakfast includes locally grown organic food. The historic main house built in 1886 provide 5 guest rooms, all designed with guests comfort in mind. Pinehurst Inn Garden House, built in 2003 as a “green building,” complements the main inn in both design and spirit. It offers three spacious guest rooms, each with whirlpool bath and fireplace, and private decks that look out on the perennial gardens and the secluded Pikes Creek Valley.

2008 brings the addition of Enso Wellness & Day Spa – rejuvenating spa services to enhance guest experience. Frequent specials & packages. Area activities range from kayaking to sailing to exploring numerous orchards to historic tours – and much more. This is the place to connect adventure, environment and personal rejuvenation.

Staff Comment - Full effort to address energy savings in Main historic house including new windows, new roof and wall insulation, comprehensive caulking, new hot water heating system with high efficiency boiler, and more. Garden House built in 2003 (template green building) with full attention to energy savings (selection and placement of windows, 98% efficient boiler system, hot water solar heating system. All lighting and appliances meet Energy Star. Sustainable operations plan provides staff with full guide on energy savings efforts. Vehicles operated with biodiesel produced onsite from used restaurant oil. Water Rating

Staff Comment - Water usage and conservation addressed property wide through variety of steps including but not limited to: ~ replacement of all plumbing fixture to low flow including showers, faucets, toilets ~ Sheet and towel re-use program (sheets washed after 4 days, towels after 2) ~ Use of front loading washers using less water; use of Energy Star dishwasher using less water ~ Environmentally friendly cleaning supplies and detergents ~ Full permaculture plan for property with emphasis on native plants and incorporation of fruits and vegetables for guest breakfasts within gardens. Drip hoses tied into rain barrels ~ Water garden collecting rain water overflow in underground hoses into gardens ~ Water usage addressed through Pinehurst Inn Sustainable Operations plan as guide for staff in all operations.

Staff Comment - Pinehurst Inn Sustainable Operations Plan addresses our commitment to re-use and recycling including but not limited to: ~ full recycling system in place in property including common areas, guest rooms, kitchen and back office areas. ~ Use of pump bottles and shower dispenser units with all products purchased in bulk sizes ~ Suppliers expected to minimize packaging and where needed, ensure packaging is recyclable ~ Full composting program with kitchen waste and yard waste. Compost used for inn gardens. ~ Breakfast is plated in kitchen with eye to minimizing throwing food out. ~ Staff educated and trained on recycling systems ~ Guests informed of recycling efforts through room notebooks and other internal communications. ~ Recently implemented providing reusable water kanteens at no cost for guests in effort to lessen or eliminate use of plastic water bottles.

Staff Comment - Pinehurst Inn takes the need to communicate and be involved in our sustainability efforts seriously. Efforts include: ~ Full and ongoing staff training on our practices (as well as providing the ability for staff to have input on improving systems) ~ Full effort to either re-use worn out items in new ways (i.e. worn sheets are re-hemmed and used in day spa onsite) or to donate to local resale shop where funds used to support area seniors. ~ Every item purchased is reviewed in terms of energy, water usage as well as being sure they are functional for our purposes. ~ We actively inform our guests through written items (room notebooks, photo albums), as well as inn tours. Tours frequently provided for groups along with seminars on sustainable business and sustainable community development. ~ Regularly speak to groups throughout Midwest on our inn, sustainable community and sustainable tourism. ~ Actively involved in formation of and enhancements to Travel Green Wisconsin.

Staff Comment - Pinehurst Inn sees itself as a partner within our destination community. We value not only our inn, but the broader area with all it has to offer. Practices include: ~ Full effort to educate our guests about all the area has to offer, making every effort to ensure they have a strong sense of place. ~ Ongoing involvement in area Chamber & Visitor Bureau to co-market the area, strong relationships with other lodgings and service providers to be sure we are providing the best experience for our visitor. ~ All staff hired are local residents. Ongoing education about our practices along with encouragement that they bring such practices into their own homes. ~ Every effort to source local growers, local products and services - in doing so, we are sure our guests are also aware of where our food and products come from. ~ Provide ongoing information for guests on the importance of our sourcing local food and products, and of our efforts to save energy and water. In doing so, we seek their support - and their suggestions.
