Shiluvari Lakeside Lodge
Set against a backdrop of Mountains and Forests, Holy Lakes and sacred ruins, Shiluvari welcomes you to the Heart of Ancient Venda and promises to restore your natural rhythm. On a natural peninsula in 30 HA of natural vegetation, Shiluvari’s sweeping views of the Albasini Dam & Luonde Mountains are the perfect base from which to explore this ‘Land of Legend’
The main Lodge, once the old farmhouse, houses the award winning Wood-Owl country restaurant, the Hog & Hound bar and fireplace, “Textures” art outlet, wrap-around terrace for al-fresco dining, and reception area.
On site facilities also include the Lakeside Swimming pool, as well as the motorized raft, ‘the Savannah’ for sunset cruises along the Luvuvhu River.

We are accredited with FTTSA (Fair Trade & Tourism South Africa), of which some of the criteria to be approved as part of this initiative are guidelines and practices related to conservation/'green' tourism etc.

Staff Comment - We have also installed energy saving bulbs throughout the Lodge, solar lighting for our pathways and are in the process of installing solar panels for our hot water/geysers.

Staff Comment - We pump our own water via borehole, and thus only use water for immediate surrounding Lodge areas. We have showers in the majority of rooms, with baths only in family rooms for children. We collect rainwater in two tanks situated on the property and use this for our gardens. Guests are encouraged to recycle use of towels, and we only change linen every three days - if guests are staying longer than 3 days, but daily if a change in guests. We are also in the process of eradicating our invader species - bluegum & eucyluptus, lantana etc, and also make use of bathroom fittings in the Lodge made of the invader black wattle species.

Staff Comment - In our policies and procedures manual, we have a policy on seperation of waste, and have seperate disposal units for plastics, paper, glass, tin and organic waste.

Staff Comment - We have a written policy on procurement. This involves the purchase of goods from local suppliers, contract of local building contrators and builders, contract and training of local guides, only locals are employed by Shiluvari Lodge (all live within a 30 km radius). All our rooms were built by local builders, and the majority of the contents were sources from Local artists and crafters.
